One day, when Mr. Sudalaiyandi was returning home from work, he heard voices among a crowd at Vadasery Market, and he went into the crowd just to see what was happening. There, the salvation army officers were conducting an outreach meeting, and the person who had gone to watch it was inspired by their message of salvation and surrendered himself and brought the salvation army officers to Kundruvilaicheri. The officers of the Salvation Army who came there continued to carry out the ministry of the Salvation Army. Kundruvilaicheri became the new place of work for the Salvation Army known as Kunnuvilai Corps. Later, Mr. Sudalaiyandi changed his name to Devasundaram, and his wife, Mrs. Lakshmi Ammal was renamed Nesamony, and they became the first Christians of Kunnuvilai Corps.
Later, their sons, Packiyanathan, Sundaram, and Thaveethu, accepted Christ as their Saviour and took on corps responsibilities at the Kunnuvilai Corps. The mission of the Salvation Army at Kunnuvilai Corps led many people towards Christ. As a result, Salvation Army ministers and people who accepted Christ faced many challenges and death threats.
